The 10 Most Played MMORPGs in 2022 - The Best MMOs to Start 2022 off Right!

It’s difficult finding an MMORPG to devote time to. Games either don’t live up to the unrealistic hype that other people create for them, or you happen across one you genuinely enjoy and it turns out nobody else does. The game’s empty.
And with so many MMOs having come out this year: PSO2 New Genesis, Swords of Legends Online, Bless Unleashed, Crowfall, Elyon, New World. Have the top 10 most played MMOs shifted? Is there something better out there that everyone is devoting their time to? Let’s find out. Together.
Especially given next month is the beginning of 2022, and you’re going to want something big to play, right?

MapleStory

maplestory-header-min

Let’s start this off with the only Anime MMORPG in this list: MapleStory.
MapleStory released all the way back in 2003. This game has spawned a plethora of other titles under the same intellectual property: MapleStory M which was received with.. moderate enthusiasm, and a sequel, MapleStory 2, that shut down a year after launching.
Neither title truly managed to capture the quirky style that MapleStory employs. This is the only MMO in this list to utilize a horizontal graphical style – you move your character horizontally, left to right, across the screen. You can jump and climb, but the bulk of the game takes place on one level.
You take quests, you venture out, you group with other players, fight for control of the area, and… grind. This game is a grind. An unbelievable grind. Almost grindier than any other MMO I’ve played in the last decade. Thankfully it employs an incredibly fast, often chaotic action combat system to make up for the time you spend engaged in combat.
It’s got an adorable Anime-ish graphical style, and gets updated repeatedly over the course of the year, with new areas, new events and new classes. This brings players coming back to the game, and is what makes it one of Nexon’s highest grossing, most profitable franchises, averaging hundreds of thousands of players across all regions per month.
Yes, this list isn’t including specifically English-speaking countries.

Star Wars The Old Republic

star-wars-the-old-republic-header

Star Wars The Old Republic released back in 2011 as part of the greater “Star Wars” franchise. Movies, TV series, video games. And while The Old Republic – The MMO, never truly lived up to the potential of the IP, it still eventually found its footing, and allowed for Star Wars fans to channel their inner fan.
Now The Old Republic has had its highs, and its lows. With its low points lasting significantly longer than its high points, but that’s partly due to how the game has been handled up until this point.
This is an open-world MMO, with plenty of different regions – and as you’d expect, plenty of different, highly diverse worlds to explore at your leisure. The Old Republic has one of the deepest, most compelling narratives of any MMO.
And while that’s 2 for 2 thus far, its combat is much less impressive. It utilizes a fairly basic tab-target combat system that definitely looks and feels older than a 2011 MMO should, given RIFT, Aion and TERA.
Star Wars The Old Republic just released their latest expansion – which has garnered quite a bit of attention, and shot the game up to hundreds of thousands of players over the course of the last month. How long this lasts however is another question all together.

The Elder Scrolls Online

elder-scrolls-online-header

The Elder Scrolls Online released in 2014, a mere 7 years ago. It feels like it’s been out longer though, right? Much like Star Wars The Old Republic, The Elder Scrolls Online is set within an already existing franchise: The Elder Scrolls. You know. Morrowind. Oblivion. Skyrim. Yes, I listed the 3 best in order of best to most overrated.
ESO has been pretty steady for the last couple years. It’s never really had any large peaks in terms of growth, but at the same time, it hasn’t sunk very far beneath what it had already established itself as.
The game has a fantastic narrative, a large open world to explore, action combat, a fairly extensive class system allowing you to more or less equip what you want in terms of weapons and armor, while giving you freedom to craft your class – in terms of skills, however you like.
Graphically, the game holds up well. It’s one of the better looking Western MMOs out there, with Guild Wars 2 being the only real competition.
ESO averages a couple hundred thousand unique players per month, and has been averaging roughly a similar amount all year.

Guild Wars 2

guild-wars-2-header

Guild Wars 2 was released back in 2012, and has since gone on to become one of the most played free MMOs. More than that, it’s generally considered to have the friendliest community of any MMO online.
The main issue with Guild Wars 2 is that for the last several years, content has been released fairly slowly. This is due to NCSoft being incompetent, and inhibiting ArenaNet from truly making Guild Wars 2 one of the greatest MMORPGs of this generation.
And with slow releases, comes an expected decline in terms of player population. Although with the recent announcement of its latest expansion, “End of Dragons” looming on the horizon, players have come back in droves to play catch-up, and new players are jumping in to see what all the hype is about.
Guild Wars 2 is a gorgeous game with an incredibly large world. It has plenty of class customization, an active PvP community and one of the better narratives out there.
The game utilizes a very high quality hybrid action combat system, allowing for players to change their entire playstyle by merely altering the weapon they have equipped.

Star Citizen

star-citizen-header-min

Now this one is a little different. See, on the one hand, Star Citizen hasn’t launched yet. It’s an indie MMO that has been in development for years, and has, over the course of its time spent in development, acquired hundreds of millions of dollars worth of funding.
More funding than Final Fantasy XIV. More than World of Warcraft. And we’re still years – perhaps decades off from being capable of playing a fully realized game. However, that hasn’t stopped players from playing it in the form it’s available in.
This is a very incomplete game, with very few fully implemented features. Yet last year they reported that they had – at their peak, hundreds of thousands of active players. Which is some of the most ridiculous numbers I’ve ever seen for an unreleased title that is still so far off from being ready.

RuneScape

runescape-header

RuneScape is the oldest title in this list, releasing back in 2001. I’m not entirely certain how this game has retained the playerbase that it has, but I guess this is a testament to how good the game must be, right?
Now I’ve never dedicated much time to the game. I’ll be the first to admit that – not every person will enjoy every MMO, right? It’s asinine to believe that anyone would enjoy every single title in this list.
RuneScape is an enormous game, with more content than you can realistically dream of partaking of if you’re a new player. Sure, it’s very dated – both in terms of how it looks and how it plays. But that’s part of its appeal.
Even though it’s 2 decades old at this juncture, this game – these developers push out more updates than almost any of its competitors, paid or free.
Thankfully player numbers are public, so we can see that there are hundreds of thousands of active players at almost any point in the day. Even if some people claim that half of them are bots.

Black Desert Online

black-desert-online-header

Black Desert Online released way back in 2014. Yeah, almost 8 years ago. Eight. Years. In all that time, not a single MMORPG released has come close to competing with the game’s dominance over the market in terms of graphics or combat.
To date, BDO is considered to be the “pinnacle of the MMORPG genre,” that one game that every MMO has to live up to. And I can honestly understand why.
Not only is this game absolutely stunning – the world itself, which is completely open, no loading screens at all. Entirely explorable without limitations, whether on land or sea.
But the depth of the character customization is unrivaled. Name one MMO with as good of a creator as BDO. You won’t find one. Couple that with some of the best action combat, and you have what should be the best MMORPG available, yet due to its horrendous pay to win, RNG and grind, falls short.
Pearl Abyss have confirmed hundreds of thousands of active players – on the higher end of the spectrum – which sets it above almost every other MMO in this list.

New World

new-world-header

While New World is less than 2 months old at this moment, it is definitely worth noting that even with all of its issues, all of the exploits, the hacks, the duplication of items, of gold, the lack of endgame, Amazon’s poor handling of all of this, their choice to make the grind even longer in a recent update.. there are still hundreds of thousands of people playing this.
At the time of writing, there was still a peak of 132,000 players concurrently logged in, with likely over a million players still playing over the course of the last month – minimum.
New World features a large, open world – albeit the world itself seems to lack much in diversity – both with regards to the environment, and the monsters found within it.
It utilizes an action combat system that honestly isn’t bad but felt too limiting to me when I played it. There’s an extensive crafting system, a territory system and so much more that is completely overshadowed by how often new exploits are taken advantage of, repeatedly ruining the experience for everyone playing.

World of Warcraft

world-of-warcraft-header

World of Warcraft released back in 2004, and up until 2020 was the most populated MMORPG. It was completely unrivaled. Nothing came close to competing with it, especially after WoW Classic launched.
Yet like everything, eventually things fall into obscurity. And while WoW is far from falling into obscurity, with the game still having over a million active players across both Retail and WoW Classic, it’s a far cry from what it once was.
This is evident by the premature end of Shadowlands, in their mad rush to push out something new to re-ignite the playerbase’ passion to play through something new and potentially exciting.
WoW is definitely a dated looking game – for most of it anyway. Newer zones are absolutely gorgeous, and the game features what is arguably the best tab-target combat in the genre. With the exception being maybe Aion or ArcheAge.
It also features more lore than almost any other game I’ve ever seen, but its story has become so disconnected, such a convoluted mess that it’s almost funny trying to keep track of what’s going on.

Final Fantasy XIV

final-fantasy-xiv-header

And finally, Final Fantasy XIV. Final Fantasy XIV released initially back in 2010, and was such a critical failure that they overhauled the game from the ground-up costing hundreds of millions of dollars.
This was the largest undertaking in the entire MMO genre, and has paid off, given it is now the most played, most popular MMORPG. And with Endwalker having just launched into Early Access, and both Mrs Stix and I playing through it, this is probably going to be the largest year for the game to date.
Final Fantasy XIV already confirmed they had hit their highest concurrent player numbers before the mass exodus of WoW players, and the combination of the those additions to the game with fans are going to make queue times unbearable.
Final Fantasy XIV features a large open world, with each expansion introducing even larger areas than the last. It’s a gorgeous game with an incredible narrative. Shadowbringers was by far the best storytelling I’ve seen in an MMO. And I’ve played almost all of them.
Its combat isn’t the best, but it’s good enough that it doesn’t bring the game down – doesn’t hinder it.
The amalgamation of everything that Final Fantasy XIV does right has shown continued success, with the game once being rivaled by Guild Wars 2, and now tripling, maybe quadrupling it in terms of active player numbers.
Nobody ever thought Final Fantasy XIV would dethrone WoW. They thought WoW would to that to itself, and Final Fantasy XIV would continue on the route it was. Boy were we wrong.

And that’s everything. They’re the 10 most played MMORPGs in 2021, moving into 2022. Were they what you expected?

Is MapleStory Worth Playing in 2021?

Welcome back to another episode of “Is it worth playing?” A video series where we go through every MMORPG, good and bad in search for the best, and at times the worst games in the genre.

Today we’re taking a look at one of the longest-lasting Anime MMOs – a game that has withstood the test of time: MapleStory.
MapleStory was developed by Wizet and published by Nexon in South Korea in 2003. The game launched shortly after in North America in 2005, and has been one of Nexon’s leading intellectual properties since, driving various spin-offs like MapleStory 2, MapleStory M and even the MapleStory Fest.

MapleStory is a very unique type of MMO. It’s one of the few side-scrolling action titles within the genre, but where it’s competitors like Dungeon Fighter Online allow for exclusively horizontal movement, MapleStory allows for both horizontal and vertical exploration.

MapleStory is set in an enormous world. Yet the world is segregated off from itself, providing players small zones to navigate between each entirely interconnected via small portals.
And before you jump to any conclusions, let me point out that these areas – these zones are in no way instanced. On the contrary, you’ll find plenty of players engaging in content, leveling, farming.
So many in fact that – and I’m sure many MapleStory players can relate, you end up in fierce competition with them over who’ll get to ultimately keep the spawn of monsters.
This is where I believe open-world PvP would come in handy, and why MMOs like Black Desert have flourished. Other players in your way? Don’t offer them your hand. Offer them “a” hand. You know. Off of a cliff. Or onto your blade.

maplestory-1-min

Speaking of PvP, let’s talk combat.
Side-scrolling MMOs don’t offer much in the way of exploration. That’s because you’re mostly given the option of moving in a very linear form. So these games are required to maintain player interest in other ways.
Combat and narrative are often the two main aspects they seem to narrow in on, and MapleStory is no exception to that.
Combat involves binding your abilities to a variety of different keys on your keyboard. As would be expected of any MMO or PC game, really.
Your abilities come in many forms. DoT’s or Damage over time skills, AoE’s or Area of effect skills, single-target skills, buffs, debuffs. I mean, as absurd as it seems at times, you’re given abilities that take up the entirety of the screen and deal massive amounts of damage.
These are my types of classes. I’ve always been fond of grouping up enemies and mowing them all down simultaneously. MapleStory allows me to really channel that – and on a variety of different classes.
Combat itself was very fluid. Abilities flowed effortlessly, spell and skill effects were very high quality, taking somewhat of a comic-esque form.
And the best part? There were so many different classes to choose between, with each and every class having not only their own unique abilities, strengths and weaknesses, but also their personalized, custom playstyle.
Where you often see classes in MMOs reusing many assets from one another – MapleStory doesn’t – well, I mean they might, but it’s done on a much smaller scale that I don’t really realize it.

maplestory-2-min

I mentioned 2 things that MMOs like this focus on though, right? Narrative was the other.
MapleStory has a unique narrative that is specifically targeted and tailored to your respective class. Sure, there’s story that carries over between classes, but every class has their own unique identity in this game.
And I’m not talking just the odd quest here and there. I’m talking about entire storylines, zones directly associated with your class and your class only. The sheer amount of effort they’ve put into making sure every class has their own unique look and feel – going above and beyond skills and aesthetic appearances is surprising.
And while classes have their own unique story, while there’s a main story to follow – more or less – there are also side-quests and entire zones and stories disconnected from the world in the form of Theme Dungeons.
These are, at times, hilarious to move through and complete. Each having their own story to follow, their own cast of characters, their own monsters and subsequently their own rewards.

MapleStory has a unique graphical style to it. I’m not sure how many of you recall the Anime… I wanna say MMO here because it shares a lot of MMO features, but I guess it’s more of an online community that takes the form of a video game? Called Gaia Online.
MapleStory shares, in my opinion, very strong aesthetic similarities to Gaia Online. With the exception being that MapleStory is a horizontal-action MMO.
Environments look great – sure, the backgrounds have a tendency to repeat several times in a row between zones, as do the enemies, with enemies typically being different colors as you move through the zones in question, but every area – not zone specifically, but area, has its own unique look and feel to it.
Characters take the form of sprites. Chibi-like pixel art. Opinions seem to vary between whether or not the game is cartoon-inspired or Anime-inspired, interestingly enough. Honestly, while I can see aspects of both present, I’d say that it takes a lot more inspiration from Anime than it does cartoons.
Sometimes the backdrops look much more 3D than the characters themselves, as the environments aren’t as limited as the character models. But then again, this game is almost 2 decades old by this point and honestly? Graphically, it holds up exceptionally well.

maplestory-3-min

There are hundreds of levels to grind through in MapleStory, with the leveling process taking the form of monster-grinding.
I’m well aware this doesn’t appeal to every type of player – as a matter of fact, I’m certain spending weeks, months even to grind levels on a variety of different classes isn’t the majority of players’ definition of a fun or engaging MMO.
Yet MapleStory has maintained a very loyal playerbase of players that have no issue with the grind. I spent about 10 days playing on and off for approximately 2 to 3 hours per day, and I think I made it to just a little shy of level 100. And that was 1/3 of the way to max level.
And let me tell you these were the easier levels to achieve, and done with XP potions from the cash shop. I didn’t wanna do this without the option of doubling my XP – I’ve been there, done that many, many years ago.
As grinding monsters is in essence the core of the game, I understand why most people shrug this game off when it comes to playing it. Well, that and the issues with Nexon ruining it just like everything they touch.
But for fans of grinding, there isn’t a better Anime game out there.

pros

✔️ For its age, MapleStory holds up exceptionally well graphically. You won’t find another game that looks as good as this one does within its respective genre.

✔️ Its combat is still, even in 2021, some of the best in the side-scrolling MMO category.

✔️ The narrative is ridiculously expansive, encompassing not only the main story, but class stories, and stories disconnected from the world itself.

✔️ It also somehow continues to receive regular updates in the form of content and new classes.

cons

❎ Yet even though the game receives regular updates, new players seem to shy away from playing it because of many glaring issues the game has, and has had for many years now.

❎ One of which is horrendous pay to win – something that Nexon loves to ruin all of their games with.

❎ While the combat looks and feels fantastic, that’s pretty much all you do in the game. Grind monsters, which grows tedious very fast.

❎ The leveling experience post-level 100 is pretty uninspired, as what made pre-level 100 entertaining was the variety of content to do outside of grinding.

Thankfully there are 2 different ways you can play MapleStory. You can go with the default servers, or the Reboot servers which are much more free to play friendly.
Regardless of what you choose, MapleStory is an incredibly fun game with some highly addicting mechanics that you won’t find elsewhere. From its combat, to its graphical style, to its narrative. This is a high quality title I would advise not overlooking.
Unless you dislike Nexon. In which case, go right ahead. ’cause at the end of the day.. it’s Nexon and they’re the same way with every one of their games.

MapleStory's February 2021 "Moonlight Magic"

When was the last time you saw anyone other than hardcore Maplers talk about MapleStory? I think the last time I even discussed the game was way back when they shut down MapleStory 2 last year, much to the dismay of the general population. But seeing as the MapleStory IP is one of Nexon’s largest money-makers, it stands to reason why it’s still as actively updated as it is.

maplestory-moonlight-magic-mmorpg-min

Even after the closure of MapleStory 2, Nexon has continued to remain committed to their game, introducing a plethora of new content for players to partake of. New dungeons, new classes, new events. Today, however, we’re here to discuss their newest “Moonlight Magic” update that brings with it various mini-games – something that MapleStory does incredibly well, and runs through ’til March 9th.

These updates consist of activities like the Fairy Bros’ Golden Giveaway, Superior Engraved Gollux Pendant Exchange Extension, [Legion Arena] Spoils for the Victors and Spell Trace Fever Time.

There have also been additional balance changes made to the game – something that the game sorely needed – well, something the game always seems to need, so while, yes, this update didn’t really include much in the way of new content, it’s worth noting that it brings with it a lot of fun little side-activities.

Maplestory M - 2020 First Impressions and Thoughts

I’m a huge fan of Maplestory. I’ve been playing this game on and off for almost a decade now. So when I heard that there was a mobile incarnation of the game – Maplestory M – I was ecstatic.
I know, I know. I’m a little late on this one but you know what? Being late has given them plenty of time to release a lot of new classes, new dungeons, push out tons of content to consume. So in that sense.. this was the perfect route to take, right?

As this is a Maplestory MMO you can bet there are a ton of different classes to choose between. However, since their latest update just went live, and they released the new Demon Slayer class to accompany that, I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to take them for a test run.
Seems only fitting, right?
So, I proceeded to make my character, was greeted by a story specific to my class – which Maplestory has always done, something I find makes replaying other classes significantly more enjoyable of an experience, and then proceeded to jump right into the familiar world of Maplestory.
Do note, that when creating my character I did opt to create a burning character, which provided me the ability to obtain 2 additional levels per level up. This allowed me to reach – what level am I currently? Over level 50 by now without too much difficulty.
Although you’re limited to a single burning character per account, so you’ll have to choose wisely.

There are so many things to do, so many ways to level in Maplestory M. Daily Dungeons, Elite Dungeons, Mini Dungeons.
I levelled to level 50 through questing and farming monsters out within the world, but I wanted to tackle the Story Exploration – as Maplestory has always had an incredibly entertaining, light-hearted story.
There are a variety of stories to run through, but at my level I only had access to the Ellinel Fairy Academy, which if you’ve played the PC MMO you’ll be all too familiar with.
Each Episode has its own set of rules, requiring you to defeat x monsters within x time limit, find x amount of items around the zone or even complete this ridiculously difficult jumping puzzle, which I may or may not have had a lot of trouble with.

Like seriously. Just take a moment here and look at how much trouble I had with this.
Missed the jump. Missed it again. See? I’m terrible at jumping puzzles, and this one isn’t even difficult! Eventually I made it, sure, but look at the amount of times I failed this… don’t judge me.

Combat in the game was actually a lotta fun. We could bind several abilities to our ability wheel and they were very impactful.
Skills looked great and felt great to use. I could easily rocket myself horizontally, and at times hit enemies vertically with AoEs which made grinding pretty easy. Thankfully the Demon Slayer had quite a few different AoE abilities and if you know me… I’m the type of person that pulls everything together and mows them all down simultaneously.

Which, admittedly, lead to this happening… more than once. But hey! I’m still getting the hang of the controls, here. C’mon!

Overall, I had an absolute blast playing through the game.
Seeing other players running around the towns and zones I was in, seeing so many familiar areas, models, classes and characters. This was a nostalgia trip if I’ve ever seen one.
This is an MMORPG that actually feels like one. Not the typical recycled content you’d expect – but something that actually looks and feels like you’re playing the main Maplestory game on your phone. And flying through the air on my Demon Slayer, unleashing havoc both above and beneath me was an absolute thrill!

Once again, If you’re interested in trying the game out, then I recommend clicking that link in the description and pinned comment below!

MapleStory 2 is Shutting Down. Nexon Announces Closure.

Yup, you read that correctly. No, it isn’t clickbait, an overexaggeration or anything other than an official confirmation of MapleStory 2 shutting down.
On March 18th Nexon made an official blog post on their website titled “MapleStory 2 Service Closure on May 27th, 2020.”
The blog went on to mention how deeply saddened the team is that they’re forced to shut down the global MapleStory 2 service in just 2 months.
You might be curious why they’re closing the game down, though, right? Of course you are. The game hasn’t even been out for long enough to warrant a shut down.

MapleStory 2 launched to over 42,000 concurrent players on Steam and a significant portion more via the official Nexon launcher.
Exactly how many players were active during its peak is unknown, but it was confirmed that there were millions of players total playing over the course of the first month of its life.
However, a mere year and a half later, the game is sitting at 200-300 players playing concurrently via Steam.. that’s an almost unparalleled drop for an IP like MapleStory, especially considering the original MapleStory – which only has a small portion of players playing through Steam averages 1,500 concurrent players each day.

After several months of complaints, Nexon came to the realization that players weren’t happy with the state the game was in.
While technically it catered to casuals, it also prompted you to level up as fast as you could so you could participate in end-game content.
The shocking thing is – or was, at least, was the sheer lack of content present at end-game. One of, if not the most pivotal part of any MMO is its end-game.
If you can’t keep players playing after they reach the level cap, then they’re going to leave. That’s just how it is, unfortunately.
MapleStory 2 offered little end-game content, and left players repetitiously grinding dailies and weeklies across all of their characters, because that was all there was to do.

They attempted to remedy this mid-way through 2019 with their “Project New Leaf” initiative that included a significant overhaul of many of the games systems, including a brand new expansion containing tons of new content.
However, as is evident by reading their closure blog post the team “tried to rework the game starting with Project New Leaf” but instead of seeing it through, they’ve instead opted to cancel the game completely.
MapleStory 2 attempted to provide players something different to its predecessor. It also attempted to offer players a non pay-to-win experience, something that Nexon clearly failed at as it resulted in the closure of the game.
At the very least, I’ll give the MapleStory 2 team credit for doing what they could with the game, but when the game lacks any form of sustainability – it’s only a matter of time before it inevitably shuts down.

Due to the approaching closure of the game they’ve disabled the option of purchasing Blue Merets and Meso Tokens in-game.
Apparently they’re going to continue to “support MapleStory 2 throughout the next couple months,” but we all know that the game is going into maintenance mode until it shuts down. Nobody is going to be working on it and nobody is going to be responding to support requests.

I only played MapleStory for maybe 10 hours total? Honestly it wasn’t a bad game at all. I never made it to end-game but I know a lot of people did and they all had more or less the same opinion of the game after experiencing it.
It had a lot of potential to be a really good-quality Anime MMO. However, whoever was in charge of designing end-game should really take a moment to look at, reflect on and understand why this failed.
It’s a sad day when an MMO shuts down. Well, maybe not every MMO. I feel as though a lot of people raised their hands into the air when Bless Online shut down but that’s one of the few games I think I’ve ever seen that happen with.
MapleStory 2 offered a lot of fun for players while it lasted. It had cute graphics, a very fun, intricate housing system and a fun storyline.
But obviously that wasn’t enough to save it from becoming another Nexon casualty.

At this point in time I think it might be more accurate to call Nexon Nexoff.

New Class - Illium Added

Nexon recently released their new update for Maplestory, Nova: Brilliance of Illium – and with it came a new character: Illium.

According to Nexon, Illium is a member of the Verdant Flora race. Illium and all the other members of his race hid themselves in the deepest parts of grandis in an attempt to avoid all their enemies and live a life of peace. Naturally, it’s impossible to avoid confrontation forever, and thus, Illium and the other survivors are forced into Maple World in order to find the Ancient God’s Sanctuary.

Illium is a magic user, utilizing crystals, his Gauntlet, and his Lucent Wings in combat.

More can be found out by visiting Nexon’s website directly.

New Content

The update itself brings in new events for players, and new areas, specific to characters level 230 and above.

My name’s Stix and today I wanna go over a few classes in MapleStory that I believe you should be focusing on leveling as new players.
These are by no means the “best Maplestory classes in 2017“, nor are they the “strongest Maplestory classes in 2017“, but I do believe they’re classes that are easy for new players to begin with to get into the game and experience it for the first time while not worrying too much about gear and potions, while simultaneously being good enough classes to start with due to ease and also the benefit you receive from some of their buffs.

Now, without further adieu, let’s get right into this, shall we?

Let’s start off with a personal favorite of mine: Demon Avenger.

Demon Avenger.)

I don’t have this listed because I main a Demon Avenger I swear.
..
Okay, maybe I have this listed because I main a Demon Avenger. That’s not the only reason though.
Demon Avenger a very straightforward class: It’s a Resistance type Warrior class that focuses primarily on HP as a main stat, having the highest overall HP in the game.
Instead of using mana, Demon Avenger’s use their own HP to fight, simultaneously being able to dish out great damage and sustain themselves through self heals.
At endgame, Demon Slayer is the more popular choice as it is generally better overall, however, prior to endgame, especially without funding, Demon Avenger is a solid choice for a first timer.
Please be aware though that if you don’t pay attention, you will likely end up killing yourself.. which I am guilty of having done in the past. It wasn’t pretty. It still happens too. Fuck I’m a srcub.

Kanna.)

Kanna is a Sengoku type Magician class that focuses primarily on Intelligence as a main stat, whilst being incredibly squishy. Still, Kanna has the highest HP amongst all magician type classes.
Kanna, like the Demon Avenger, doesn’t use mana, instead using Spiritual Power. This means you don’t have to fork out cash for mana potions! Yay, cost-cutting at its finest!
Kanna is one of the better grinders in the game, having attacks that literally hit the entire screen, and a skill that increases the spawn rate of monsters, providing ridiculous mobbing potential.
Her drawback however is much lower damage which can make soloing for her a lot more difficult without a group.
Just a quick note, though, Kanna is classified as a support class and in very high demand due to her buffs.

Mercedes.)

Okay, okay, so maybe not one of the easiest, let alone best classes in the game, but nevertheless it’s worth noting for any new players out there that getting a Mercedes to level 70 unlocks a special passive skill that provides players with increased XP, scaling up to level 120, that also happens to be account-wide.
Meaning all future characters receive a passive +10% increase in XP from all sources while leveling.
This skill is fantastic for leveling her, alts, and anything else you want!

Cygnus Knights.)

The Cygnus Knights are another class you should focus on leveling, being that they receive a passive account-wide buff called Empress’ Blessing, providing a damage increase for all characters on your account.
Although the Empress’ Blessing buff isn’t the only reason you should be leveling them, it will likely be the main reason in the end.
The buff is just too good to pass up and you should definitely focus on getting one up if even just for that buff!

Bishop.)

So the Bishop is an Adventurer type Magician class that focuses more on support as opposed to offence.
Bishop’s are in high demand due to their powerful support skills such as healing allies, dispelling negative spell effects, and buffing party stats.
This can make doing raids, taking on bosses, or even just leveling so much easier.
I would like to point out though that as this is a support class, the Bishop deals very low damage. It deals some of the lowest damage of any class, but if you can get around that it is one of the most useful classes in the game!

Well there you have it!
This goal of this video was never to be a full on guide on the “best Maplestory classes”, it is more.. informational.
To new players.
Hopefully something new players can watch or read through, depending on whether you’re watching the video or reading the article.

It’s not a largely detailed guide. It’s not supposed to be. It’s just supposed to be a little helpful guide to anyone that needs a helping hand on what they should be leveling for the first time.
Classes they need to make sure they level.
Classes that are easiest to level and play for a good first experience. Since you know first impressions are everything!

Also, quick question: Which classes do YOU find to be the easiest or most useful?

Regardless, hopefully you guys enjoyed the short guide! If you want more guides like this in the future, or more detailed guides on Maplestory – let me know in the comments section!
Don’t forget to subscribe to keep updated with videos like this in the future!

Take care everyone, and see you all next time!
