The concepts of rifts opening randomly in the open world, zone bosses spawning through them and so forth really added a fun twitst to the MMO experience. But sadly those features take a lot of players being in the game to really have a good go at them, which just isn’t going to happen with a decade-old nearly dead MMO. I wish somehow that there would be a fan-made Rift Classic experience with a dedicated group of a few hundred+ players, I’d love to feel that nostalgia once more.

Just jumped into this game, i understand it came out about the same time as WOW, technically it’s a clone, More or less
Graphics are similar to wow although of their era. Does not appear to be dungeon quaint or fast leveling
You have to work for it old school

I was a wow player in the day and spend 2 years or so in Rift, and it was awesome for what it is, even had a sub for a while
I have also played gw2, swtor, and t4c,

But got back too looking for that whole to fill in my mmorpg desire, currently playing swgoh for years too

Any other suggestions out there,

Note Rom is by gameforge -tera, 4 story and others

I don’t know what “Intrepid Adventures” are as that didn’t exist when I played.. The game was very active and it was fantastic.

It switched from the old standard of monthly payments to play to the new one of freemium model and the writing was in the wall, everything pretty rapidly began shifting from mastery and exploration to just total mainstream easy, basic, quick stuff designed to appeal to a much broader audience and it killed a lot of the experience for me. It’s not surprising to hear that leveling is just now repeatedly queueing for some quick short instant missions because it was clear that’s the way it was headed. WOW had just done the same thing before which is why I had left it to start Rift in the first place.

It’s sad that games have all sort of gone down that road of playing a numbers game for monetization, casting a wide net and trying to appeal to a broad casual audience. I miss the expertise and mastery that games used to have, it is what made playing them rewarding. Now they’re mostly just dopamine triggers designed to hook you in just enough to start buying things with not much aim beyond that. It seems now like developers that update these games are doing so just to keep people around long enough to buy more stuff and not so much to create depth and exploration.

I have to say I am LOVING being back in Telara. When I returned I spent some weeks marveling at how great a game RIFT is, with so many fun options to spend time ! It’s amazing HOW well it has aged, and how fresh and exciting the game still feels. There’s still a very good player base and community and economy as well. IMHO, it’s well worth picking up, even now. I personally haven’t felt this excited about logging into a game in years.

Just my two coppers.
