Blue Archive Earnings Make it One of the Most Popular Gacha Games in 2023

Blue Archive has earned over $250 million dollars since its Global release back in February 2021, and has gone on to become one of the most popular Gacha games currently available. But that hasn’t always been the case. On the contrary, Blue Archive did quite poorly in its first year, and suffered repeated scandals – censorship, mishandling.
And while there were numerous setbacks for the game, in its current form, it is one of the most consistent, quality Gacha games. 2023 has been its best year yet, with January and February being 2 months where it has successfully eclipsed almost every other game in the Gacha genre, bringing in over $20 million dollars for each month respectively.
With this in mind, let’s take a look at how Blue Archive is currently doing, and compare it to how it was doing in 2022.

2022 was a pretty good year for Blue Archive, but has been entirely eclipsed by 2023.
In January 2022, Blue Archive earned $8.2 million dollars. This – and all future earnings are going to combine both Global and Japan. In January 2023, however, Blue Archive earned $20.7 million dollars. Unreal, right? That’s more than a 250% increase in total gross earnings a mere year later.
In terms of downloads, most of 2022 saw anywhere from 50,000 to 100,000 downloads each month. 2023 seemed to follow along similarly.

In February 2022, Blue Archive earned $6.8 million dollars, a $1.4 million dollar decrease over January, as opposed to February 2023, which saw earnings exceeding $23 million dollars. An increase of $2.3 million dollars over January, and setting a record for the highest grossing month to date.
This was an overhwelming increase of almost 350% since the same point in 2022.

March is when earnings really saw a noticeable decrease in both 2022 and 2023 respectively, but not to a large extent.
In March 2022, Blue Archive earned $4.7 million dollars. Down from $6.8 million in February. In March 2023, Blue Archive earned $15 million dollars, down from $23 million dollars in February 2023, yes, but still almost more than the first quarter of 2022 combined.
March is also when we see the largest difference between months: March 2023 saw an overwhelming increase of 375% over March 2022.

In April 2022, Blue Archive earned $3.3 million dollars, quite the significant decline from its January earnings, but much closer to other Gacha games like Azur Lane, Punishing Gray Raven, Arknights. However, in April 2023, Blue Archive earned a significant $12 million dollars.
Yes, both months continue to show a decline – a stable decrease in total earnings month after month, but even at its lowest point, 2023 still remains significantly higher than 2022 at its peak.

The stable decline changed a little bit in May, however.
In May 2022, Blue Archive earned $4.9 million dollars – an increase from both March and April. Much like 2022, May 2023 saw an increase from $12 million dollars to $13 million dollars. Not a substantial increase, sure, but an increase by almost the total earnings of Tower of Fantasy each month.

Blue Archive is an incredible Gacha game that continues to show that it has the staying power, and growth potential far beyond the vast majority of its competition.
This is partly due to the fact that the game is genuinely good – it’s got a cute graphical style, fun combat, some incredible looking Waifu’s, and an actual story. A combination of features many Gacha games are lacking.
And it seems as though the studio responsible for it care about its long-term success, otherwise they wouldn’t have made 2 separate versions of the game – 1 for younger audiences, and 1 for cultured gamers who are a fan of more plot and no censorship.

If Blue Archive continues this trajectory, I daresay 2024 will be even more successful than 2023. Blue Archive continues to retain a spot in the top 10 most played Gacha games each and every single month – which you can actually find the full list of if you check out my monthly financials series on-screen right now.

Blue Archive May 2023 Earnings & Statistics

Blue Archive is a phenomenal Gacha game. But how is it doing in May 2023? Honestly, it continues to surprise us.

3 months ago Blue Archive earned $22 million dollars, 2 months ago it earned $14 million dollars, this most recent month however, Blue Archive has averaged over 200,000 new downloads, with approximately $13 million dollars in revenue Globally across both Android and iOS.
Blue Archive is one of the rare few Gacha games that have continued to improve in quality and subsequently earnings and playerbase over the last year, setting, and then breaking records repeatedly.
And it makes sense as to why it does – the game is just that good. But will it continue to excel at the rate it has been? I wouldn’t doubt it.

Arknights May 2023 Earnings & Statistics

Arknights is my favorite Gacha game. But how is it doing in May 2023? Honestly, quite exceptionally.

3 months ago Arknights earned $3.4 million dollars, 2 months ago it earned $3.4 million dollars, this most recent month however, Arknights has averaged over 200,000 new downloads, with approximately $11 million dollars in revenue Globally across both Android and iOS.
Arknights is one of the most engaging, difficult yet rewarding strategy games on the entire platform. Due to the sheer quality and professional handling of the game by Hypergryph, this is reflected in gross earnings and downloads.
Arknights is one of the 15 most played, most downloaded Gacha games in the world in May 2023, and it’s only going up from here.

Tower of Fantasy April 2023 Earnings & Statistics

Tower of Fantasy has done pretty well for itself since its launch. But how is it doing in April 2023? Honestly, the game continues to show a decline in revenue month after month.

4 months ago, Tower of Fantasy earned $7 million dollars 3 months ago it earned $3.8 million dollars, 2 months ago 3.8 million, this most recent month however, Tower of Fantasy has averaged over 130,000 new downloads, with approximately $3.3 million dollars in revenue both within China and Globally across both Android and iOS – disregarding PC.
Tower of Fantasy is far from being dead, but has continued to decline regularly every single month without showing any signs of recovering. Which – while fine in the short-term, definitely doesn’t bode well for its long-term survival.

Limbus Company April 2023 Earnings & Statistics

I poured quite a few hours into Limbus Company and it’s a very fun game. But how is it doing in April 2023? Honestly, the game launched to some pretty average numbers, but seems to be holding relatively steady.

2 months ago, Limbus Company launched to 100,000 total downloads and earned $200,000, this most recent month however, Limbus Company has averaged over 160,000 new downloads, with approximately $1.6 million dollars in revenue Globally across both Android and iOS.
This totals 260,000 players and roughly $1.8 million dollars since its launch. Which admittedly aren’t the best numbers for a new game, coming in at only 15% of what EverSoul launched to just 3 months ago.
Nevertheless, this is a much more niche game, so it’s to be expected. Although I hope it continues to flourish in the future.

Neural Cloud is in a pretty bad spot right now. Not only is the game seeing minimal downloads each month, but it’s also seeing barely any return on investment. Less than a million dollars each month spells a pretty certain future.
How long we have until then is the question.

The 15 Most Popular Gacha Games of March, 2023

This is an exciting month! We’ve seen the top 15 Gacha games – games that have dominated earnings over the last several months – shift, which is healthy for the genre.
No singular group of games should continue to dominate the genre repetitiously each month without competition.
When studios are no longer challenged, they grow lazy. And we’ve seen that happen time and time again. Hey, my name is Stix and welcome back to your monthly recap of how your favorite Gacha games are doing on a month by month basis.
If you’re interested in Gacha releasing this month – new Gacha to try out, I have a dedicated video exclusively for that that you can find linked below or at the end of this video.

Let’s start this off with #1Genshin Impact. I know, shocking, Genshin is still the #1 most played and highest grossing Gacha game of March 2023, bringing in a grand total of 3,000,000 new downloads across Android and iOS and $67,000,000 in revenue Globally.
China brought in 800,000 new downloads and $61,000,000 in revenue, totaling 3.8 million new players, and $128 million dollars in revenue. This is an increase in revenue over last month, which saw $107 million dollars, but a decrease in new players, down from 4 million.
The #2 spot has been heavily dominated by NIKKE ever since it launched. And after several months, while still doing absolutely incredibly.. it saw its first defeat, with Fate/Grand Order taking the #2 spot, with 120,000 new downloads and $47,000,000 within Japan alone, and 80,000 new downloads and $3,000,000 Globally.
Japan and Global, totaled 200,000 new downloads and over $50,000,000 in earnings, which is an increase over last month in terms of earnings – which saw $45,000,000 – yet a decrease in new players, down from 340,000.
NIKKE may have fallen from #2 – but it still holds strong at #3. Although just barely, bringing in 600,000 new downloads and $28,000,000 Globally.
If it had fallen a mere few million dollars this month, the game would have fallen to the #5 spot instead. Both in terms of downloads and earnings, this is a decrease over last month, as last month saw $47,000,000 in revenue, and 800,000 new players.
The next 2 games tied when it came to earnings. Both differed quite significantly when it came to total new players, so that’s what we’re using to label them as #4 and #5 respectively.
#4 saw Heaven Burns Red enter the top 5 Gacha games of March – the first time this has happened – I believe – in over a half year. Heaven Burns Red is available exclusively in Japan, so this is quite the accomplishment, as is the monumentally large 800,000 new players and $25,000,000 dollars in total revenue.
This is an enormous increase over last month, which saw a mere 40,000 new players and $8,000,000 dollars in earnings.
Uma Musume wasn’t far behind, however, at #5. Uma Musume was a Japanese exclusive until recently, when the game launched in Korea. Japan, however, saw 60,000 new players and $25,000,000 in total revenue this month.
This is a decrease from last month, which saw 80,000 new players and $41,000,000 in total earnings. Korea, however, saw a negligible 10,000 new players and $700,000 in total revenue. Also down from last month’s $1,300,000 and 13,000 new players.
Interestingly, Blue Archive almost saw itself breaking into the top 3 for the first time ever, coming in at #6. Combining Japan and Global, Blue Archive saw 320,000 new players and $24,000,000 in total revenue.
This is the third month in a row where Blue Archive has managed to accumulate hundreds of thousands of new players, and over $20,000,000 in earnings, with last month seeing 330,000 new players and $21,000,000 in total revenue.
Raid: Shadow Legends managed to capture the #7 spot this month, bringing in 600,000 new players and $15,000,000 in total revenue. I’m honestly not sure how this game manages to continue to attract such a large audience, and how that same audience continues to justify spending on it. But whatever they’re doing – they’re doing right.
This was a decrease over last month, however, which saw $17,000,000 in total revenue and 1 million new players.
Project Sekai came in at #8, with a total of 340,000 new players and $11,700,000 in total revenue split between Japan and Global. Most of which came from Japan, honestly. This is a slight decrease over last month which saw 370,000 new players and $12,000,000 in total revenue.
#9 is a game that unfortunately still exists, Diablo Immortal. Diablo Immortal managed to bring in a grand total of over 1 million new downloads, and $10,000,000 between Global and China. This is a decrease over last month which saw $18,000,000 and still roughly over a million downloads.
#10 is a Gacha game that nobody predicted would have the lasting power that it has: Memento Mori. Memento Mori managed 80,000 new players, and $9,000,000 in total revenue. Which is a steep decline from last month, which saw 290,000 new players and $14,000,000 in total earnings.
And while a decline of a pretty large margin – it is still in the top 10 highest grossing Gacha games this month, which is quite the accomplishment half a year after its launch.
Summoners War comes in at #11 with 70,000 new players and $8,000,000 in total revenue Globally. This is a decrease over last month’s 90,000 new downloads and $12,000,000 in total earnings.
Fire Emblem Heroes managed to secure the #12 spot this month with a Global total of 80,000 new players and $5,000,000 in revenue. This is a decline over last month which saw the game reach 100,000 new players and $7,000,000 in total revenue, and also marks the game’s first inclusion into this list.
#13 through #15 all earned the same this month, yet differed in total number of new players, so we’re going to separate them as we did earlier.
At #13 we have Eversoul, a Gacha that released Globally back in January 2023. Eversoul has managed 290,000 new players this month and $4,000,000 in total revenue. That is a sizeable decrease over last month which saw 1,200,000 new players and $9,000,000 in total revenue. Yet not a decrease large enough to warrant concern.
At #14 we have Eminence in Shadow, another new release that managed to accumulate 130,000 new players and $4,000,000 in total revenue Globally. This is down from the 150,000 new players and $5,000,000 earned last month.
And finally, at #15 we have Epic Seven. Epic Seven rarely makes it into these lists – so I’m always surprised to see it when it does. This month, Epic Seven managed 110,000 new players and $4,000,000 in total revenue Globally. This is an increase over last month’s 80,000 new players and $3,000,000 in total earnings.

This was quite the interesting month. We saw Arknights fall out of the top 15 – we saw Tower of Fantasy’s second month in a row making a mere $2 million dollars, Honkai Impact raise into the top 20 but still miss the top 15. Artery Gear is making less than $100,000 per month, as is Neural Cloud which is a recent launch as well.
Revived Witch actually only made $20k last month Globally. That is insane.
But that’s pretty much it.

The 15 Most Popular Gacha Games of February, 2023

Man, is it already February? Dude, I feel like I just got over the Christmas and New Year bloat… like, I’m still struggling to fit into my pants because of how large I’ve gotten. With a new month, comes changes in Gacha popularity. Player density. Revenue. Is Genshin still #1? Has Tower of Fantasy managed to break back into the top 30? is Diablo Immortal still scamming players out of tens of millions of dollars? That’s what we’re here to find out.

Hey, my name is Stix and welcome back to your monthly recap of how your favorite Gacha games are doing on a month by month basis.

At #1 we have Genshin Impact, which has managed to retain a monopoly on the market moving into the new year, although they saw a decrease in total revenue compared to last month. A decline from $127 million dollars totaling China and Global to $118 million dollars.
Global alone made $63 million dollars, to put this into perspective for other titles. There were still upwards of 3 million new downloads, however.
While we can only track NIKKE‘s Global earnings, it managed to actually see an increase in revenue – from $43 million dollars up to $47 million dollars earned in total. With this, it managed to maintain its #2 spot.
People thought NIKKE would see a very rapid, very steep decline but contrary to popular belief, the game is doing incredibly well, managing over half a million new downloads this month.
Fate/Grand Order maintains its grip on #3, with a nice increase over its previous months earnings from $42 million dollars to $45 million dollars between Japan and Global. It also saw over 360,000 new downloads – a whopping increase over last month’s 40,000.
Uma Musume comes in at #4 as – within Japan, it continues to see incredible success, increasing from $28 million dollars to $41 million dollars last month. Yet still only a few thousand total downloads. Meaning the game isn’t growing in size, but current players are spending more than ever.
Coming in at #5 is a Gacha game that has, realistically, never been in the top 5 before: Blue Archive. Blue Archive saw a monumentally large increase in revenue, from $6 million dollars combined with Japan and Global, to $20.7 million dollars.
That’s more than 3 times its previous month, is the largest sum of money ever earned in a single month by the game, and has set the year up to be quite the overwhelming success. Sadly, it still only garnered 80,000 new downloads.
Arknights comes in at #6 with quite the sizeable increase from its previous month as well. Arknights made $18 million dollars last month, compared to the $3.4 million dollars it made the month before it. And still managed over 300,000 new downloads. That is absolutely crazy.
Diablo Immortal comes in at #7 with a whopping $17 million dollars earned. That is the same as its previous month. It also managed hundreds of thousands of new downloads, going to show that bad, pay to win, predatory games can still be successful.
Raid: Shadow Legends comes in at #8 with $17 million dollars earned, down from its previous month’s $19 million dollars. Still, the game managed 1 million new downloads – an absolutely astonishing number given the type and quality of game it is.
#9 is interestingly enough, Memento Mori, which saw an uptick in earnings from $12 million dollars, to $14 million dollars. It also saw 300,000 new downloads, but this can be attributed to the fact that it’s still technically a new game. Although it’s earning a lot more than most new releases.
#10 is Summoners War, which managed to earn $12 million dollars, a decline from the previous month’s $14 million. Unfortunately for the game there were only 90,000 new downloads. Which is still more than half the other games in the top 50.
Project Sekai manages to take #11 with $10.9 million dollars earned via both Japan and Global. This is on par with what it made the previous month. It also managed to accumulate over 300,000 new downloads.
Coming in at #12 is The 7 Deadly Sins Grand Cross, making a cumulative total of $10 million dollars between Global and Japan, up slightly higher than the previous month’s $9 million. Interestingly, there were only 20,000 new downloads across both regions.
Eversoul – which just launched last month managed $9 million dollars in total earnings Globally, comes in at #13. There were 1.2 million new downloads for the game, which are pretty impressive numbers. Admittedly, I had a lot of fun in Eversoul.
#14 is Heaven Burns Red, a Japanese exclusive that has managed to earn enough to be included in the top 15 Gacha games every month since I started doing this, and continues again with $8 million dollars earned, tying in with the previous month’s $8 million dollars. Like many Japanese exclusives, there were very few new downloads – a mere 20,000.
And finally, at #15 is Azur Lane, with $5.5 million dollars earned between both Japan and Global, down from the previous month which saw $8.8 million dollars in earnings. Azur Lane also brought in an estimated 100,000 new players.

As you can see, January was quite a month for Gacha games. Somehow, NIKKE continues to absolutely defy all logic and dominate the genre. Which is really no surprise. Blue Archive and Arknights breaking the top 10 were quite the shocker. Punishing Gray Raven barely pulled in $2 million. Tower of Fantasy still failed to break into the top 20, and actually saw a decline from $6 million the previous month to $4 million last month, falling into pretty obscure territory.

The 15 Most Popular Gacha Games of January, 2023

Man, how time flies, right? I started covering Gacha games back in January 2022 – so this is technically my anniversary month. I’ve been doing videos for an entire year, and it’s kinda surreal that so many people have chosen to follow me on this very expensive journey into the Gacha genre.

Hey, my name is Stix and welcome back to your monthly recap of how your favorite Gacha games are doing on a month by month basis.
With the beginning of the new year, comes new potential for games to rise.. and games to fall. And I’m glad to be here to condense all of the information into one easily digestible video.

Starting off the new year at #1 is none other than Genshin Impact. Totaling both Global and Chinese versions of the game, Genshin saw 3 million downloads and $127 million dollars in total revenue across Android and iOS. An increase over last month’s $117 million dollars.
#2 saw NIKKE once again absolutely dominating the market, with a Global total of 800,000 new downloads and $46 million dollars in earnings across Android and iOS. A decrease over last month’s $70 million dollars. But it is worth noting that was expected – as this was only its second month, and second months are always going to accrue less money.
Fate/Grand Order continues to hold the #3 spot month after month, thanks to Japan. Totaling Global and Japanese versions of the game, Grand Order totaled 40,000 new downloads and $41 million dollars across Android and iOS. An increase of $9 million dollars since last month.
Coming in at #4 is Uma Musume. Uma Musume has held a top 5 spot for the last year straight, and continues to retain an active group of whales, as with it being a Japanese exclusive Gacha, it still managed 50,000 new downloads and $28 million dollars across Android and iOS. Comparatively, it saw an increase over last month’s $24 million.
Raid: Shadow Legends comes in at #5 with a Global total of 800,000 new downloads and $19 million dollars across Android and iOS. An increase over last month’s $17 million.
#6 is Diablo Immortal, with Global and Chinese versions totaling a million new downloads, and $17 million dollars across Android and iOS devices. That is a decrease from last month’s $18 million, but still far more than it should be making.
Coming in at #7 is Summoners War, with a Global total of 50,000 new downloads and $14 million dollars across both Android and iOS. This is an increase over last month’s $11 million.
Surprising everyone at #8 is Memento Mori, which amassed 170,000 new downloads in the second month of its Global release and managed $12 million dollars across Android and iOS devices. This is a decrease from last month’s $16 million, but like NIKKE, was 100% expected.
At #9 is Project Sekai, with a Global and Japanese total of 370,000 new downloads and $11.4 million dollars across Android and iOS. Comparatively, that is an increase of $1.5 million dollars over last month.
At #10 is Romancing SaGa Re:Universe, again, thanks largely to Japan, with a total of 25,000 new downloads and $9.2 million dollars earned between Global and Japan, across Android and iOS. That is an increase of $2 million dollars over last month.
Coming in at #11 is The Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross. Totaling both Japan and Global, there were 30,000 new downloads and $9.8 million dollars across Android and iOS devices. This was an increase of 2 million dollars since last month.
Eminence in Shadow is a brand new release that comes in at #12 managed 400,000 new downloads and $8.5 million dollars earned via Android and iOS from both Japan and Global. Much of which is attributed to Japan.
Heaven Burns Red comes in at #13 with 40,000 new downloads and $8 million dollars across Android and iOS devices. This is a Japanese exclusive, and is still not yet available Globally. This is an increase of $2 million dollars over last month.
At #14 is Blue Archive, with a whopping combined total between Japan and Global of 110,000 new downloads and $6.5 million dollars across Android and iOS. This is an increase over last month’s $5.5 million.
And then finally, at #15 is Archeland, which just launched in Korea. Thus far, the game has managed half a million downloads and $5 million dollars across Android and iOS devices. This is a solid opening for a new game.
That was an interesting month, right? We saw Tower of Fantasy drop out of the top 15 after a continued decline, dropping from $8 million dollars earned Globally to $5 million, reaching an all-time low. We saw new games like Memento Mori see only a minor drop. NIKKE continue to push the boundaries for what we’re willing to spend money on.
This is going to be an interesting year.
