Exposing Soul Reborn - An NFT Plagiarizing SoulWorker

Can you imagine how much effort has to go into stealing the intellectual property of another game, purchasing fake social media accounts, a fake Youtube account, and trying to sell your pathetic NFT bootleg as an original product?
Because that’s what Soul Reborn is currently doing, and it’s laughable. Like, I’m legitimately sitting here, as I write this, laughing to myself because of how ridiculous the entire situation is.
And the best part? The SoulWorker developers, Lion Games, publicly outed them, claiming they were going to take them to court over theft. Yeah, we’re in for a wild ride today.

Upon first inspection, their website looks legitimate. Their Twitter page looks legitimate. 67,000 followers, though? That sure is a lot, right? Yet taking a look at their Tweets – 12 likes? 20 likes on their pinned Tweet? There’s hardly any interaction going on whatsoever.

soulreborn1

Taking a look at the official Twitter account for SoulWorker – not only do they possess a fraction of followers, but they average hundreds of likes per Tweet?

Digging a little deeper into the history of their Twitter page, 3 months ago they had 73,000 followers. Meaning they’ve since lost 6,000 followers over a 3 month period. Almost 3,000 of which have been lost in the last 30 days alone.
That’s a whole lotta disinterested followers, right?

Soul Reborn bought this Twitter account. This was not a Twitter account that was organically grown. Not only is this shown by the thousands of users unfollowing monthly, but this Twitter account was created in April 2009. Yes, 2009.
SoulWorker was released in Japan in 2016. In Korea in 2017. In North America and Europe in 2020. The earliest incarnation of this game was from 2016 – so why, then, was there a SoulWorker NFT – Soul Reborn – Twitter account created back in 2009? There wasn’t.
They purchased an already established account, changed the name, all of the info, and acted like they were a large, established entity to lull potential players into a false sense of security.

We’re off to a good start, right? This is just surface-level. Upon simply looking at their Twitter account. It gets so much better.

Upon learning of the bootleg Soul Reborn game, the official English SoulWorker Twitter account made a Tweet stating:
Unlicensed Illegal NFT related to Intellectual Property of SoulWorker “Soul Reborn” is the game that currently steals the Intellectual Property of SoulWorker without permission. Please DO NOT signing up/promoting the above mentioned site to prevent further damages.
Lion Games will take strong Legal Action and respond to those who take illegal advantage without mercy. Thank you.”
One of the several official SoulWorker Twitter accounts responded to a Tweet made by Soul Reborn – a Tweet that is now unavailable.
In their response, they stated “From Lion Games Official Comment here. SoulWorker is an official product of Lion Games. All resources are illegally abused, and legal actions will be conducted regarding this unauthorized program.”
To which Soul Reborn responded with: “Hello, we have purchased the IP of Soul worker through legal channels and signed the documents. If you have any other comments, please contact us through your lawyer, we will now sue you for defamation through legal means.”

Yes, that legitimately happened. The official rights holders for SoulWorker reached out to an illegal copy of the game, stating that they were illegally using their assets and resources. To which the illegal copy of the game stated – once again – to the rights holders themselves, “nuh-uh. Now I’m suing you for defamation.”
This is some schoolyard-quality defensive strategy.

ARMCHO, the official Art Director for Lion Games and SoulWorker even responded at this juncture, stating “From Lion Games Official Comment here. SoulWorker is an official product from Lion Games. All resources are illegally abused. What you are doing is swindle. And legal action will be conducted regarding this unauthorized program.”
To which Soul Reborn continued with the same response given to the SoulWorker Twitter account, claiming they’re suing the Art Director for defamation. At this juncture, they’re throwing around the term “suing for defamation” as a baseless threat to attempt to silence criticism.
And evidently it did not work. Gamers aren’t scared of threats they’ll never be able to follow-up with.

In response to threats from Soul Reborn, the SoulWorker TC Twitter left a message stating “If your contract has been officially made, send us your documents to the email we have attached below,” followed by an official Lion Games email.
As being qualified for IP holder, we have not officially made any contracts concerning the program called Soul Reborn. Tell us who are involved with the legal channels and documents you are insisting with.
As being informed above, we are here to warn you to stop unauthorized advertisement. Any unauthorized abuses will be legally reported, and Lion Games will take solid action against all violations of our rights.”

After receiving no response, SoulWorker TC made a public statement on Twitter: “Announcement on illegal NFT related to unauthorized use of SoulWorker IP.
Hello everyone, this is SoulWorker. At present, we have confirmed that some companies have stolen SoulWorker IP without authotization, conducted NFT business with Soul Reborn, and obtained illegitimate benefits. In order to prevent further losses, this notice is hereby notified.
Because the above game was developed without a formal contract or license, signed with Lion Games; therefore, please do not register, or promote the above website, in order to avoid related damages. Lion Games will take tough legal measures and countermeasures against illegal profiteers, please pay special attention.”

Soul Reborn felt the need to make a public response to this in the form of a Tweet titled “Statement on SoulReborn IP licensing.”
Thankfully, I screenshotted their article – which went on to state that this was their official statement in response to recent “inappropriate allegations and threats.”
Where they go on to claim they are officially licensed by SoulWorker Korea to develop a mobile version of the game. Which, just FYI.. they never created.
Here’s the kicker, though. After clicking the link they supplied in their Tweet, it leads to a 410 error page – which states “this account is under investigation or was found in violation of the Medium Rules.”
Yes, under investigation or in violation of rules.

Ahhahahah.. dude, you cannot make this stuff up. These are some of the juiciest popcorn moments all condensed into a single video – you’re welcome.

soulreborndefense4

In a final, desperate attempt, Soul Reborn posted an image of an agreement – the first page of the agreement, anyway, that went on to show that Lion Games entered into an agreement with a mobile developer to develop a mobile SoulWorker game.
Of which there have been several made over the last couple years. Nowhere in that image, however, does it state anything about an NFT iteration of the game for PCs, which leads a lot of people to believe that it’s fake. Like everything else.

Soul Reborn is a ridiculous attempt at plagiarizing an already existing, established intellectual property, and making a profit off of it.
SoulWorker and Lion Games have repeatedly fought this at every turn, alas, it seems like the Twitter account and website remain online.
Although from what we’re capable of seeing – there’s no longer any real activity present, so it seems like interest dried up relatively quickly.

Just think: If they actually created something original, they might’ve had something worthwhile to offer players. But this.. this is just unquestionably pathetic and laughable.

It Gets Worse.. The SoulWorker NFT Scam

Ahhahaha – I – I oh god. I can’t. I can’t breathe.
The scam NFT Soul Reborn – who stole assets from SoulWorker and illegally turned them into NFTs, made a Tweet telling people to “be careful” as there were “pirated versions” of Soul Reborn’s NFTs on the market.
This guy stole something, illegally redistributed it, and is complaining that other people have stolen his stolen assets, and are redistributing his redistributed stolen assets as NFTs.
Please help. I’m dying. Oh god.

Today, I want to discuss the evolving conflict between SoulWorker and the illegal Soul Reborn. So last week I covered the NFT “Soul Reborn,” that reportedly stole assets from the Anime MMO SoulWorker and went on to repeatedly claim they had acquired legal rights to not only develop the SoulWorker intellectual property, but also distribute it in whatever form they wanted.

The official rights holder, Lion Games, announced via their Twitter account that Soul Reborn was stealing the intellectual property of SoulWorker without permission, and urged players to avoid the NFT to prevent damages, further going on to confirm that they were taking strong legal action.

soulworker1

The Soul Reborn NFT responded with a Tweet confirming that they had “purchase the intellectual property of SoulWorker through legal channels and signed the documents,” even going as far as to claim they were going to sue players, and Lion Games – the legitimate rights holders themselves for defamation.
Soul Reborn promptly deleted their initial Tweet so the discussion wouldn’t be visible to their audience. However, the official SoulWorker Steam account and other users continued to leave comments on additional Tweets made by Soul Reborn, which garnered a copy-pasted response.

soulworker2

The SoulWorker Twitter responded to Soul Reborn by stating that if their contract had been officially made, they required their documentation to be sent to the official Lion Games email. “As being qualified for IP holder, we have not officially made any contracts concerning the program called Soul Reborn.
Tell us who are involved with the legal channels and documents you are insisting with.”
“As being informed above, we are here to warn you to stop unauthorized advertisement. Any unauthorized abuses will be legally reported, and Lion Games will take solid action against all violations of our rights.”

soulworker3

After receiving no response from Soul Reborn other than a simply “ok,” the Steam SoulWorker account made 2 Tweet’s of their own.
Announcement on illegal NFT related to unauthorized use of SoulWorker IP – Hello everyone, this is SoulWorker. At present, we have confirmed that some companies have stolen SoulWorker IP without authorization, conducted NFT business with [Soul Reborn], and obtained illegitimate benefits.
In order to prevent further losses, this notice is hereby notified. Because the above game was developed without a formal contract (or license) signed with [Lion Games]; Therefore, please do not register, or promote the above website, in order to avoid related damages.
Lion Games will take tough legal measures and countermeasures against illegal profiteers, please pay special attention.”

soulworker4

Then as I noted earlier, ironically, Soul Reborn made 2 Tweets recently, the first of which went on to claim that there were “pirated version of Soul Reborn NFT’s on the market,” urging their players not to buy into the scam – which is honestly the most laughable thing I’ve ever seen in my life.
A scam NFT that stole assets from a legitimate game, telling players there are NFT’s stealing assets from an illegitimate NFT? You can’t make this stuff up.

soulworker00

Their second Tweet went on to address their licensing of the SoulWorker intellectual property, with a post made over on Medium titled “Statement on IP licensing.”
“The Soul Reborn team would like to make a solemn statement in response to some recent inappropriate allegations and threats. (allegations and threats made by the legitimate rights holders, I want to quickly note.)
Soul Reborn is officially licensed by Soul Worker Korea IP to develop mobile games end and computer games, all data of Soul Reborn including NFT and AR-NFT are currently running in the games developed by the current license, and there are no false allegations such as infringement.
We would like to warn you that there are negative influences on the internet and attacks on Soul Reborn’s telegram group and twitter account.
Since the launch of Soul Reborn, the NFT product has been selling well and has received a lot of attention and popularity from users, and has contributed to the evolution of traditional handheld games. We always hope to solve the problem through peaceful means, but in the face of false accusations, we will take legal action.”

soulworker6

Well, that’s what the edited post states, anyway. As you can tell by the plethora of comments left on their Tweet, they altered their Medium post to remove an instance where they promised to provide irrefutable proof that they do in fact own rights to the SoulWorker intellectual property.
I guess they probably shouldn’t make promises they can’t keep, right?

soulworker7

Official SoulWorker staff and users have repeatedly requested Soul Reborn to show any type of legal documentation proving they do in fact have rights to operate their game and NFT, but Soul Reborn have repeatedly acted unprofessionally, discourteously, and unbefitting of an entity they claim to be.
But then again, as I noted in my last video, it’s highly likely the guy running Soul Reborn either bought a fake already established Twitter account to seem “legitimate,” or has since gone on to purchase tens of thousands of Twitter followers because we all know “larger accounts look more legit.”

I’m surprised the Soul Reborn Twitter account is still functional. Although I honestly don’t expect it to be for too much longer, given Lion Games’ stance on the matter.

I can’t believe we live in a society where things of this nature are becoming commonplace. When I thought about the future of gaming 5 years ago, this is not where I expected to see the genre go, but hey, welcome to the future, right?

SoulWorker NFT Scam: "Soul Reborn"

It’s bad enough that NFT’s are a thing, but when a group goes out of their way to impersonate an already existing entity, fake their social media profiles to seem more “legitimate,” all in an effort to promote their garbage NFT.. then you know there’s a problem.

Today, we’re talking about “Soul Reborn,” according to their Twitter they’re a “new pay to earn MMORPG game” that has stolen characters, artwork and gameplay from SoulWorker, an Anime MMO developed and published by Lion Games.
Now you might be thinking to yourself, “well, Stix, their Twitter looks pretty legit. 73,000 Twitter followers. An actual website. Their Twitter was even established all the way back in April 2009. That doesn’t seem like a scam to me.”
So before we delve into this any further, let me preface this by stating that this Twitter page, @SoulWorkerEN is the official SoulWorker Twitter. This is owned, this is operated by Lion Games.

On January 28th, Lion Games issued a public service announcement concerning Soul Reborn. It went on to read:
“[NOTICE] Unlicensed Illegal NFT related to Intellectual Property of SoulWorker
“Soul Reborn” is the game that currently steals the Intellectual Property of SoulWorker without permission. Please DO NOT sign up/promote the above mentioned site to prevent further damages.”
“Lion Games will take strong Legal Action and respond to those who take illegal advantage without mercy. Thank you.”

The Soulworker TC Twitter page reached out to Soul Reborn via a reply to one of their Tweets, with a reply directly from Lion Games going on to state that “SoulWorker is an official product of Lion Games. All resources are illegally abused, and legal actions will be conducted regarding this unauthorized program.”
To which Soul Reborn laughably responded with “Hello, we have purchased the IP of Soul worker through legal channels and signed the documents. If you have any other comments, please contact us through your lawyer, we will now sue you for defamation through legal means.”

At this juncture, people were confused. Once again, Soul Reborn has over 70,000 followers on their Twitter account, and the account in question is well over a decade old. How could it have existed for as long as it has without it being legitimate?
SoulWorker – the Anime MMO was first released in Japan on April 6th, 2016, with Hangame publishing the game. Smilegate published the game in Korea on January 18th, 2017. We didn’t receive the game in the West until February 26th 2018.
So why was a Twitter for the game created 6 years before the game released?
I decided I was going to scroll through the Soul Reborn Tweet history. Attempt to get a gauge of the kinds of Tweets they’ve been making over the last decade, however, their first Tweet originated on November 19th, 2021, and simply read “Soul Reborn.” A second Tweet was made 11 days later on November 30th, 2021.
They then proceeded to periodically introduce new characters they claim were “theirs” all the while hosting giveaways to promote their illegal NFTs.
But how does a Twitter, created in 2009, with over 70,000 followers just magically appear out of thin air? Honestly, quite easily.
Soul Reborn likely did one of two things.

1.) They purchased an already established Twitter account that was made back in 2009, changed the username, the information attached to the account, and used the community of followers as a basis with which to grow and market their NFT to.
2.) They purchased a Twitter account that was made back in 2009, and proceeded to purchase fake followers – as it is evident their followers don’t interact with their Tweets. 70,000 followers and 10-40 likes per Tweet? Unlikely.
This route would have allowed them to easily accumulate as many followers as they needed to give off the illusion that they were in fact a legitimate company, because “social media cred” is all that’s important in this day and age.
You have followers on Instagram? TikTok? Twitter? Then you’re a paragon of information and truth.

Regardless of which method Soul Reborn utilized, what they did was wrong. Immoral. They faked the stats on their accounts. Bought fake followers. All in an attempt to look more “legitimate” to potential players.

Going back to the Tweet from earlier by Soulworker TC, Soul Reborn are claiming that they obtained the rights to the entire SoulWorker intellectual property. Reproduction and distribution rights.
That they are planning on suing every person commenting on their page for defamation through legal means.
All the while going on to delete the Tweet that these comments were being left on to avoid additional exposure to their scam.
Notice how the Tweet is now “unavailable?” Yeah, that’s a cheap way of attempting to and failing to cover things up.
What baffles me the most about this – and I’m going to use the term “discussion” here as I feel generous. Is that they were reached out to by Lion Games personally.
They were reached out to by the official Soul Worker Steam page. They were reached out to by the SoulWorker art director himself. All claiming Soul Reborn had no rights to the properties they were attempting to sell and use to scam players – yet they are adamant they do.
They copy and paste the same legal threat repetitiously like it’s going to make the matter admissible.

I’m genuinely shocked this is still somehow functional. That they’ve managed to get away with this for the last 2 months.
I understand the appeal of NFTs, I do. I don’t endorse nor will I ever engage in them personally, but seeing something like, an instance where a person or group of people can take the intellectual property from an existing entity like SoulWorker and Lion Games, fake their growth, fake their community and then get hosted, get advertised by accounts like NEXTYPE with hundreds of thousands of followers? I think I’m going to need a trash can to throw up in.
I am 100% in full support of SoulWorker and Lion Games. I understand realistically they’re not the largest company, and legal battles like this might be much more difficult for them if they have the capital to even engage in a drawn-out case.
But if Soul Reborn genuinely stole assets and are marketing their “pay to earn MMORPG” when they don’t have the legal rights to do so…. I hope they meet a swift, legal end.

Until then, all I can do is warn you all against using Soul Reborn. As per the official developers themselves: Soul Reborn is unlicensed, and 100% illegal.

SoulWorker 2? Project Soul / Soul of Destiny Announced

If it wasn’t already apparent from the plethora of SoulWorker videos I’ve done over the last several years… I love this game.
I’ve been creating content for SoulWorker since it was available in Korea and Japan. Long before Gameforge brought over their failed version.

Yet this… this is not the future I wanted for the franchise. This is the last thing the game needed.

After watching the trailer above.. honestly, it looked disappointing. Like, really, really disappointing. From a longtime SoulWorker player…. man. So, Project Soul is currently only available within China. Therefore, it’s also only available in Chinese at present.
However, from what little information has been revealed about the game, apparently it’s more or less what we’d expect from a mobile SoulWorker game: It’s.. well, SoulWorker. The same characters – just.. only half of them. The same setting. The same type of gameplay.
I mean the game itself looked good, don’t get me wrong. Visually, aesthetically, the game looks like a great successor to the SoulWorker intellectual property, but… this is such a low-effort Chinese knock-off.

Why is it that we’re at a point in the MMO genre where developers see MMOs that have had a modicum of success, and opt to take the IP, absolutely destroy the heart and soul of the game, and turn it into some cheap-ass churn ‘n burn mobile game.
It’s actually disgusting.
SoulWorker, sure, isn’t a unique MMO. It has the same repetitious gameplay found in Vindictus, in PSO2, in Dungeon Fighter Online. But it’s a gorgeous Anime title with some ridiculously good combat and social aspects.
This? Project Soul or Soul of Destiny? It seems like a heartless remake in an attempt to milk more mobile players out of their money with minimal effort. Which seems to be the case with many mobile MMOs these days.
Not necessarily mobile GAMES as a whole. But mobile MMOs. Mobile MMOs are some of the lowest quality, lowest effort games on the platform, and this looks to be no exception.

I genuinely cannot believe these types of games keep being developed. And that players continue to support them.
I mean, if they didn’t.. it wouldn’t be happening, right?

Is SoulWorker Worth Playing in 2021?

Ever since Lion Games re-acquired the rights to distribute SoulWorker globally, the game has been pulling in some pretty good numbers. Almost 4,000 concurrent players, consistently, even 6 months after the game re-surfaced online.
For reference, PSO2 New Genesis is struggling to retain similar numbers, even across both the Microsoft Store and Steam, and Swords of Legends Online has already sunk to less than SoulWorker in half the time…
This goes to show the lasting power.. of SoulWorker.

Now welcome back to another episode of “Is it worth playing” – where we sift through every MMORPG available right now in an attempt to find the best MMORPG in 2021. Today, we’re taking a look at what is arguably one of the best free to play Anime MMORPGs available: SoulWorker.
This is a personal favorite of mine. I was one of the only content creators to cover this game when it was only available in Korea and Japan, until Gameforge opted to take advantage of the millions of views I was generating for the game and localize it.

Gameforge originally brought SoulWorker over to the West several years ago. The game was highly anticipated, but Gameforge made some severe alterations to the game that inhibited players ability to play at a rate they wanted.
Yup, an atrocious Stamina system, nerfing XP rates which meant players had to run additional instances of the same content they’d just completed, which went on to deplete your already severely limited stamina. It was an abhorrent thing to do, and was part of the reason for the game doing so poorly, with the addition of IP blocks for a lot of the world.
Fast forward to earlier this year, Gameforge lost publishing rights, and Lion Games, the developers of the game took back complete control.
Not only did they remedy the issues that Gameforge fabricated, but they introduced a brand new character, new content, and opted to release the game globally. No IP restrictions. Players could finally access and play the game after years of being neglected and ignored.
And that is reflected in the thousands of active concurrent players, and tens of thousands of active players every day.

Don’t worry, that’s it for the history lesson.

soulworker-1-min

SoulWorker is an absolutely gorgeous Anime-inspired hub-MMO. There exist several different, unique “hubs” scattered around the world. These hubs are filled with various different NPCs that each provide players with quests to undertake.
Some of them are story related, some are purely side-content. Both are required to continue to level and progress to new areas.
You’ll also find other players in each and every hub. This is where the bulk of the “MMO” aspect comes into play. Players will occupy a space with tens if not hundreds of other players. You can chat, group up. Just hang out like you would in any MMO or multiplayer game.
If you choose to group up, you’ll be capable of participating in what the majority of SoulWorker is comprised of: Running instanced dungeons. Yup, SoulWorker is not an open-world MMO. This means that there isn’t really much in terms of exploration.
Sure, there are unique “hidden” areas and items you can find while in dungeons, so there’s a sense of exploration.. kinda. But the vast majority of the game involves taking quests from a hub, and subsequently running them via dungeons. Rinse and repeat, as you move between larger, more expansive hubs and instances.

soulworker-2-min

Now this will likely get quite repetitious for some people. But hub-MMOs, much like Anime MMOs or sandbox MMOs cater to a certain demographic of players. Players that have no qualms running content repetitiously.
But one thing I don’t think anyone is capable of pushing through, is poor gameplay.
Grinding the same content every day can be an arduous process. But being forced to grind through the same content repeatedly when your combat sucks? Yeah, that ain’t gonna cut it for me. Or for many players.
Thankfully, SoulWorker utilizes what is arguably some of the best action combat in an Anime MMO. Sure, if you compare it to something like Vindictus, TERA or Black Desert, it isn’t really going to stand out.
But comparatively speaking – specifically when put up against other Anime titles, I daresay the only competition would be PSO2 New Genesis.
The combat in SoulWorker is very fast, it has a lot of special effects going on on-screen. Both the movement of your character, the enemies and the combat itself is all highly fluid. Some of the best I’ve come across in an Anime title.
There’s a skill system in place that allows for players to customize which skills they spec into which provides a small sense of individuality. You’re capable of pursuing a more.. personal, custom build, enhancing abilities you find yourself more drawn towards.

soulworker-3-min

Speaking of customizing your character, SoulWorker wouldn’t be an MMO.. without customization options, amirite?
Heck yeah. You can make some of the most adorable looking Anime waifu’s you’ll find ANYWHERE! If you’re a fan of playing Barbie…. or dress-up, really, and staring creepily at your character in provocative positions, then this.. this right here is for you.
There are plenty of hairstyles, facial options, and even more importantly, an incredible selection of outfits.

SoulWorker has a fairly decent narrative. I mean it’s an MMO, right? They’re not really known for their enthralling stories. Most people skip the storylines found within the genre, and while you can in SoulWorker as well… okay honestly you won’t be missing much.
But you’ll miss some context when certain things happen.

pros

✔️ SoulWorker has some of the best action combat in an Anime MMORPG.

✔️ It has a decent story if you need something to follow to take you away from the adruous grind that is present.

✔️ It looks gorgeous, and has an interesting setting for an MMO.

✔️ There’s plenty of customization options, both for your characters physical appearance and build.

✔️ After Lion Games re-acquired the game, it actually ended up.. much better than ever before.

✔️ And there are still tens of thousands of active players! For an Anime MMO.. that’s something else.

cons

❎ Yet unfortunately the repetitious nature of it being a hub-MMO deters quite a substantial number of players.

❎ The story is…. kinda just there. And isn’t really all that gripping.

❎ The majority of the game doesn’t require any type of party-play as it’s all very solo friendly.

Ultimately, SoulWorker is an MMO I find myself coming back to over and over, year after year.
Partly due to the release of new characters and classes to play, and partly because there really isn’t an Anime MMO that looks and plays as good as this does. With the exception of PSO2 New Genesis, anyway.
This is a beautiful game with some fantastic action combat, plenty of customization options, and a fairly active playerbase still.

Soul Worker Online is Back!

It’s been an unusual year so far. Gamigo have shut down 5 MMORPGs, we have several MMOs on the horizon for a release in the immediate future, and Gameforge, well.. For those of you that were shocked and baffled to see SoulWorker shut down.. you’ll be glad to learn that the official developer Lion Games re-released SoulWorker GLOBALLY on May 13th.

This means no IP blocks at all, with North American and European players alike able to jump into the game and play it. And the best part of all of this? The content updates are going to be significantly faster, as Gameforge won’t need to wait over a year to publish the changes South Korea gets.

Instead, any and all updates moving into the future are going to be developed for a global audience. Meaning entirely new areas, new characters. Everything. So while it was definitely shocking to see the MMO go down, and it is going to be a little disappointing knowing you’re going to need to start the game from scratch, this is going to be a substantial upgrade over the version we had up until this point and I’m going to be there playing it.

Soul Worker Academia is a Brand New Upcoming Anime MMORPG!

It was just brought to my attention that there was a brand new Soul Worker game coming out – and no, before we go any further, I want to note that unlike several of the other Soul Worker mobile games that have released over the course of the last year, Soul Worker Academia is its own standalone game.. as opposed to a poor, low-quality port. At least I hope it is.

Little is known about the game currently, however, 2 trailers showcasing several features have been released onto the internet. We get a look at Haru, some emotes, and get to accompany Haru into a variety of different dungeons. We get a look at the combat, some of the abilities, the UI. Then we’re taken onto the Academy campus, where the game actually takes place and are shown several features present within it. We see the dorm that we’re going to live in, the room we’re going to be able to customize, get a glimpse at club activities – I mean heck, we get to take up part-time jobs if we want as well.

A lot has been shown, and I’m genuinely curious where this ultimately ends up going because this both looks and feels like Soul Worker – the PC iteration of the game, but at the same time, the tone of the game and the features being presented to players is drastically different.

Soul Worker Academia Release Date?

Soul Worker Academia is scheduled to release in 2021, with no currently confirmed Western (North America/Europe) release date.

Isn't it About Time we Got an Official Pokemon MMORPG?

I’m a huge fan of Soul Worker. I did so many videos on it before Gameforge ever picked the game up and brought it over to the West, so seeing a brand new Soul Worker game – Soulworker Anime Legends had me very excited to play.

You’re given the option of selecting one of 6 characters – which is evidently less than the PC version: Haru, Erwin, Lily, Stella, Iris and Jin. I’m a Haru main but Mrs Stix actually recorded this footage, and.. she loves little Stella, so.. yeah.

The game starts you off in the same barren wasteland that the PC Soul Worker does, you fight off some monsters, learn some basic controls, meet your team, get chased by the giant wolf thing, and.. actually, you know what?
The entire first half hour of this game felt ripped completely from the PC game. With the exception of ending up in the medical bay, this is the exact sequence of events that took place in Soul Worker Online.
The same applied to the dungeons, the instances you would run. Like, don’t get me wrong – I’m not saying that a mobile port of the PC iteration of Soul Worker is a bad thing by any means, I just didn’t know it was essentially recreated as opposed to being a separate, more original title.

Now I mention that dungeons were the same – but let me elaborate a little more.
Soul Worker is a game that takes place in several small “hubs,” areas where you can take and complete quests or missions, where you can buy items, upgrade, use the store, converse with other players, form groups and enter the various instances scattered throughout the world.
There are several zones per quest hub, and each zone houses several missions in turn varying in difficulty. Each zone has their own distinct look and feel: A destroyed part of the city at dusk, an amusement park, an underground railway, providing a lot of different environments as to not bore you.
I’m not sure if the mobile version allows you to have your own apartment, but the PC version did and that was one of the other purposes of having a quest hub.

Combat is just like the PC version as well. I’d always felt that Soul Worker had the best combat in an Anime MMO and while Soulworker Anime Legends definitely doesn’t have as good combat as some other mobile titles, it’s still pretty damn good.
You have less abilities, you have less combos. There’s less customization and control over your character but you’re still required to actively mash those abilities, dodge and try not to die.
All the while progressing through the story. And let me tell you, Soul Worker, while it doesn’t have an amazing story by any stretch of the imagination, has a solid enough story that you’ll want to pay attention to.
And from what I can tell, Anime Legends ported the story on over as well. So I guess if you’ve played it through on PC it won’t matter to you, otherwise.. enjoy!

Overall, Soul Worker Online and Soulworker Anime Legends both are very good looking, very fun games.
Do I think the mobile game is worth playing if you’ve played the PC version? No, since it’s the same thing, with less customization and less features overall.
But the mobile game as a whole – as its own individual, standalone title, is pretty good.

Soul Worker Online in 2020 Impressions

Soul Worker is – to me – one of the best looking Anime MMOs and utilizes one of the best action combat systems in an Anime title.
I’ve gotten repeated requests to revisit Soul Worker, so Mrs Stix and I decided to begin streaming it over on Twitch at twitch.tv/mmobyte – if you’re interested in joining us.
This was our experience in the first several hours of playing.. but won’t be the last video we do on it, expect more to come soon..

Soul Worker is a hub-based Anime MMORPG. Unlike other hub-based MMOs like Vindictus or Phantasy Star Online 2, Soul Worker provides various different hubs for players to wander around, to explore, to take quests from.
There are even areas outside of the hubs that link one another together, making it feel larger, more connected. This is something that I feel is missing in hub-based MMOs and a feature that I definitely feel would make them feel much larger in scale.
The action combat is some of the best I’ve come across in the genre, and honestly, playing through the story is a lotta fun.
The characters are super cute, the outfits add on to that quite a bit, and the graphics are some of my favorite.
Overall, I enjoy Soul Worker. I have every time I’ve played through it. I look forward to continuing to push through the game with everyone, and honestly hope that I can make it to endgame one day to truly test what it’s like, as I’ve never made it that far.

Soul Keeper: Awakening Launches In China

The mobile iteration of the popular Anime inspired action brawler Soul Worker Online has finally launched in China under the title “Soul Keeper: Awakening.” Like Black Desert Mobile and Blade and Soul Mobile, Soul Keeper: Awakening brings the same fast paced action gameplay from the PC’s Soul Worker over to mobile devices.

Soul Keeper: Awakening is currently available to play from both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. Do note though that while the voice acting is in Japanese, everything else is in Chinese – something that could make it increasingly difficult to play.
